With their freestanding, black industrial-look kitchen, Julia and Simon stay true to their style and have incidentally created the most important place in the house.

A world apart

Industrial design in the corner house on the outskirts of the city, in the largest settlement of Vienna. Listed and from the 30s. Unchangeable - at least on the outside. Inside, it's like entering another world. Few walls, large rooms. Concrete floor. Designer furniture. Steel. Accents in black and white.

Arrived

Julia and Simon, the manager and creative director, have made this their home. Have renovated the building and garden from the ground up and given it a new character. One that suits them. With great attention to detail and uncompromising in their very own style. If you think of color, you don't know them. It's hard to find even in their closet.

Black and white. Period. Only the basketball is red. A reminder of Simon's glory days on the field and a gift from Julia for moving in. In the meantime, the two are more likely to be found on the tennis court.

Arrived

Industrial Design

The steel staircase is designed by Simon's brother. A unique piece. Pure and minimalist. The set contrast should continue in a black kitchen. Simple, functional, freestanding and with an industrial design look. Anything but a classic built-in solution.

Robust elements made of valuable materials and supported by a black steel frame were to complete the character of the house and its inhabitants. The two found what they were looking for at Keep.

Industrial Design

The steel staircase is designed by Simon's brother. A unique piece. Pure and minimalist. The set contrast should continue in a black kitchen. Simple, functional, freestanding and industrial look.

The kitchen consists of two freestanding kitchen modules (The Low), which form a corner and contain all the appliances. The stand-alone large refrigerator in matte black is not built into the elements and together with the black lamps and three black shelves of Keep completes the picture. The lightness of the room is maintained by the fact that the modules stand on feet.

"We were looking for the kitchen for not everyone. What we like about Keep? Here, you treat a kitchen like a piece of furniture that you give air to breathe. Fitted kitchens that feel like you can't move them an inch are so not our thing." 

Space miracle

Due to the limited space available for the kitchen, it was quickly clear how it should look. Tall cabinet and wall module form the basis, but the visual focus is on the large kitchen island with the Bora hob and stools.

"Even though it's not the biggest kitchen space-wise, we never thought we'd need more space. It's unbelievable what fits in the store."

Space miracle

Due to the limited space available for the kitchen, it was quickly clear how it should look. Tall cabinet and wall module form the basis, but the visual focus is on the large kitchen island with the Bora hob and stools. The space problem is more than solved by the fully extendable drawers, which are only possible thanks to the steel frame.

"Even though it's not the biggest kitchen space-wise, we never thought we'd need more space. It's unbelievable what fits in the store."

Central point

Today, the kitchen is the center of the house. Central point for two people who are not often at home, but still prefer to spend time together.

While one cooks, the other sits on one of the bar stools at the freestanding kitchen island. He helps with the chopping, works a bit on the notebook, or enjoys the view through the large glass front out into the garden. People chat, laugh, toast, and sometimes even eat here. 

"Because of the ingenious design of the kitchen island, we love sitting here. We only use the dining room when we have guests." 

Central point in industrial design
