Upper Austria
Where wood and steel make a family feel at home.
Born from the desire to create a home for a growing family, this timber house in Upper Austria is considered down to the last screw. Massive spruce beams carry the ceiling. The floor is light oak. And right in the middle, freestanding like a piece of furniture: a kitchen to keep in Nero.

“We did not want a house where you have to be careful. We wanted one where you dance barefoot through the kitchen.”
From outside you see wood, glass, and a pool that mirrors the garden in summer. Inside, a generous space opens up where cooking, eating, and living flow into one another. The terrace extends the living room outdoors. Inside and out, the same principle applies: clean lines, warm materials, nothing superfluous.
“The wood shifts, the light travels, the children grow. The kitchen remains.”

The island stands at the center. Black pendant lights hang above the dining table, green linen curtains filter the light. Panoramic windows frame the view of meadow and sky. The architecture draws the landscape in, and the kitchen to keep holds its own without competing.
“Freestanding means you can walk around the island, lean against it, sit down. The kitchen belongs to everyone.”

The lightness of the timber house is preserved because the kitchen inhabits the space rather than enclosing it. Everything on feet, everything freestanding. Tall cabinet with Miele oven, wall module, island. Three modules that together form an entire kitchen universe.

Brass fittings place golden accents on the black worktop. The gold is no accident. It responds to the warmth of the spruce, catches the sunlight, and gives the black fronts a soft depth. Every detail is a deliberate choice, not decoration.
The details tell of this family's everyday life: A cookbook, open on the worktop. Spring blossoms in a glass vase. Wooden plates beside the golden sink. Spices standing in the sunlight on the island. This home is not spared. It is lived in.
This house is not a showroom. It is a home. And the kitchen is its heart.
